DESCRIPTION:
APW - Dudley Watch Co, Masonic, Model 3, 19J, 12S, white gold-filled OF original display case with Art Deco style bow, refinished metal dial, SW-SS, lever escapement, jeweled barrel arbor, gold jewel settings, nickel pillar plate with engraved gilt bridges in the form of Mason's tools, silvered Holy Bible on winding bridge, s#5307. This example comes as pictured with an attractive sterling silver chain and also with a magnificent silver and gilt ball-form Masonic fob which has four exterior latches which release to allow it to unfold into a cross comprised of six equal sized pyramids with Masonic symbols on each of their sides; this fob style being exceedingly unusual and a truly perfect accessory to this watch! Interestingly our consignor has informed us that this superb pairing of watch, chain and fob has been together for most, if not all, of this watch's working lifetime as our consignor purchased the piece approximately 20 years ago from an individual that had owned it since the mid-20th century (likely 1940s, by his best estimate) and that the combination of watch, chain and fob were already together at the time of his own acquisition.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Ticking sluggishly on a full wind, crown needing some downward pressure as turned to prevent it from lifting into setting position, overhaul recommended, fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, some toning of plate surfaces, barrel bridge with a mismatched screw; refinished dial with surface spotting; fair hands with substantial oxide and finish loss; case shows hardly any wear, some small scratches to band near front and rear bezel opening positions, no dents or dings, superb engraving detail; tight bow, crown shows hardly any wear; good glass crystals. Chain shows little wear, an attractive darkened patina. Fob is excellent with good folding and unfolding function, good gilt exterior finish, and inner surfaces with superb engraving detail and some attractive dark patina.
